Our client is a dynamic and growing underwriting agency seeking an experienced underwriting leader to drive both underwriting excellence and distribution growth. This is a unique opportunity to join at an early stage and play a critical role in building the agency’s market presence, broker reputation, and long-term success.

The role:

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this is a pivotal leadership role responsible for underwriting strategy, insurer engagement, product development, broker distribution, and team leadership.

A key focus of the role is to establish and grow a strong reputation in the broker market, positioning the business as a trusted, responsive and solutions-driven underwriting partner.

You will lead a growing underwriting team while driving product rollout and executing a distribution strategy that builds meaningful, long-term broker partnerships, particularly within the wholesale space.

Duties in this role will includes:

Lead and execute the distribution strategy, driving engagement across broker networks
Build and maintain a strong market presence and reputation with brokers
Identify, onboard and grow key broker partners to drive wholesale opportunities
Act as a senior market-facing representative, strengthening relationships and generating new business
Lead, coach and develop a high-performing, growing team of underwriters
Establish underwriting frameworks, guidelines and best practice across the business
Manage and enhance relationships with insurer and capacity partners
Drive product development, enhancement and rollout, aligned to market demand
Monitor portfolio performance, profitability and risk discipline while supporting growth
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align underwriting, distribution and strategic objectives

As the successful candidate you will have:

10+ years’ experience in General Insurance underwriting
A strong and established reputation within the broker market
Proven ability to build and grow broker relationships and distribution channels
Demonstrated success in underwriting leadership, portfolio management or product development
Experience managing insurer and capacity provider relationships
Strong commercial, financial and market acumen
Proven leadership capability with experience developing teams
Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills
ANZIIF CIP (or equivalent) or relevant tertiary qualifications highly regarded
