About the role

Join our Medical Imaging team as a Sonographer supporting the delivery and management of a 24/7 Ultrasound service. As a Grade 4 Sonographer, you will provide expert ultrasound services across multiple imaging sites. In this role, you will support the delivery of a high-quality, patient-centred ultrasound service while contributing to the effective operation of the department's 24/7 service. As a recognised expert practitioner, you will work collaboratively with radiologists and multidisciplinary teams, providing advanced clinical expertise and supporting excellence in diagnostic imaging and patient care.

As a Grade 3 Sonographer, you will be recognised as a competent practitioner in ultrasound, demonstrating strong clinical expertise and the ability to work independently. In this role, you will operate a range of ultrasound equipment contribute to a rotating roster with on-call, overtime and shift requirements, and perform imaging across all Barwon Health sites. The option for Sonographers with a current radiation license who are interested in maintaining skills and contributing to the radiographer roster can also be considered.

Key responsibilities - Grade 4

  • Perform a wide range of ultrasound examinations competently and independently, delivering high-quality imaging within required timeframes and adapting techniques based on clinical needs
  • Independently operate Ultrasound equipment including information systems (RIS/PACS/Firstnet,BOSS, Sonoreview)
  • Participate in roster which includes being available for reasonable overtime and out of hours recall and shift duty
  • Operate all ultrasound systems across Barwon Health
  • Display leadership by example and experience
  • Perform on-going practical supervision and training of students maintain CPD requirements, and actively contribute to ongoing learning and development

Key responsibilities - Grade 3

  • Perform a wide range of ultrasound examinations competently and independently, delivering high-quality imaging within required timeframes and adapting techniques based on clinical needs
  • Independently operate Ultrasound equipment including information systems (RIS/PACS/Firstnet,BOSS, Sonoreview)
  • Operate all ultrasound systems across Barwon Health
  • Work closely with radiologists, contribute to a 24/7 service (including on-call), and recognise when to escalate or seek guidance from senior staff
  • Support training of students and junior staff, maintain CPD requirements, and actively contribute to ongoing learning and development

What we're looking for

  • Successfully completed a post graduate qualification in ultrasound (e.g. DMU or university graduate diploma)
  • Registered with the Australian Sonographer Association Registry (ASAR)
  • Excellent time management, communication skills, teaching, and professionalism
  • The Grade 3 Sonographer is a competent practitioner in ultrasound participating in the provision of a 24/7 ultrasound service which includes being available for reasonable overtime and out of hours recall
  • The Grade 4 Sonographer must demonstrate competence and expertise across a number of clinical sub specialities of ultrasound as assessed by the Chief Sonographer. They must also demonstrate leadership by example and experience and assist with ongoing education of Sonography students and Grade 3 staff.
  • A Grade 4 sonographer participates in the provision of a 24/7 ultrasound service which includes being available for reasonable overtime and out of hours recall.
